🐛 Production bugs happen to everyone
I have noticed a GitHub bug for a few weeks, but I kept forgetting to ask publicly about it.
Today, I noticed it again, and I tracked it down to README.rst files, so I wrote this post:
Has anyone else noticed that some READMEs on GitHub have been broken recently?
I thought it was just me, but the pattern seems to be like code blocks in rst files no longer get formatted.
This led to several friends chiming in and one link to this open GitHub issue thanks to Funky Bob
The story’s moral is that writing software is hard; even GitHub makes mistakes and breaks things.
If a trillion-dollar tech company can break things for weeks, cut yourself some slack the next time you stumble on a production.
Disclaimer: I wrote this post while talking in this month’s Conference Chats.
